Darrell's Signature Refinishing
  How to Shop for Refinishing

There are many aspects to consider when shopping for a refinisher. The most important qualities of a really good refinisher are the experience of the technicians, the detail of the process used, and the materials used for the finished product.

Most people would assume that all refinishers are doing the same thing, but this is not so. Some refinishers, especially those with cheaper pricing, are cutting corners on details that effect the look and longevity of the finish. Some are not removing old caulking, or repairing damaged areas or rust problems. Some are not even cleaning the surface before applying a new finish! Some are not taking proper measures to protect the homeowners property while the work is performed. Some have technicians working with only a week or two of training. Most do not have technicians with more than a year or two of experience.

There is also a wide variety of materials for refinishing available in all price ranges. Some of the cheaper finishes can turn yellowish or get chalky looking after a couple of years. Some refinishers are using these products to give you a lower price. We prefer to spend a little more to get a high quality product that will maintain its color and gloss for many years.

Some refinishers are telling people that they have a "special this month only" to mislead you into believing that you are getting more for your money than you really are. If you call them next month, or the month after that, or every month in the year they will say the same thing. Although this seems to be a common acceptable business practice, unbeknownst to the general public, we find it quite objectionable. Sadly, it must work well because one refinisher has been using this tactic for as long as we have been in business! And now others are using it as well.

Before you choose a refinisher make sure you understand what you are getting for your money. Paying a little more for quality and experience may just save you a lot more in the long run. Once you pay for a bad refinishing job you are highly unlikely to get your money returned and it will then cost you even more to get it redone properly due to the extra cost involved for stripping off a bad finish. If it happens to be fiberglass or tile that was refinished badly the price almost doubles.

Do your homework! Call the Better Business Bureau. Ask friends or neighbors who have had something refinished. Or call Darrell's for guaranteed quality work by the most experienced technicians in the area. We will not finish the job until it looks perfect, and you do not pay us until you are totally satisfied with our work.
